The Story of Kerry Sloan

This is a story of a very close friend of mine that was killed in a car accident. We later found out that the driver and passenger of the truck were both intoxicated. This is meant to scare you and let you know that these things DO and WILL happen if people aren't careful enough. I lost one of my best friends. Don't let that next person be you or someone else's best friend.
Please Don't Drink and Drive.

A 31-year old Plano Man died following a multi-vehicle wreck on Central Expressway Wednesday morning that forced the closure of the expressway for several hours. The wreck occurred about 10:36 am when a northbound pickup carrying two men lost control and crossed the median, flipping and rolling as it struck a southbound Toyota Celica driven by Kerry Sloan. The truck hit the top of Sloan's car and bounced off. The impact left Sloan pinned inside the vehicle with massive head injuries according to reports. As many as four other vehicles also collided in attempts to avoid the spinning pickup on the busy expressway, left littered with debris and spilled fuel. Plano firefighters had to cut Sloan from the wreckage of his vehicle. A Care Flite helicopter was called and landed on the freeway, picking up Sloan and taking him to Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, where he was pronounced dead. Sloan's death marked the city's seventh traffic fatality of the year. Plano police were continuing to investigate the cause of the wreck late Wednesday. Southbound traffic, which was at a standstill as far north as Bethany Road, was diverted onto the service road at Legacy Drive, Police spokesman officer Carl Duke said the expressway was reopened shortly before 2 pm. Sloan was reportedly on his way to his job as a software developer for Bell Northern Research in Richardson, a division of Northern Telecom. He worked there three years, according to a company spokesman. Friends of Sloan said he was a very popular person who spent much of his personal time serving as an operator on an Internet chat line called #Dallas. Sloan was known by the nickname "Talisman" Several friends mourned and talked about Sloan's death on the channel Wednesday afternoon, which carried the header "Dallas:Talisman 1964-1995. A good Friend to All." "He would talk about anything", said a close friend, Jennifer Buss, "He was a real energetic , a real go-getter. He loved to go out and talk to different people." Buss said Sloan had custody of a 10-year-old son from his first of two marriages. She said the son left July 1 to visit his mother in North Carolina. "He was really involved with the Internet," Burr said. "Everybody knew him. If you knew him in real life, that's how he was on the Internet. He was real laid back." Sloan's parents lived in Indiana and were making plans to have his body returned there for burial, Buss said. The two occupants of the pickup that struck Sloan's car were taken by ambulance to Medical Center of Plano, where treated for minor injuries and released. They were identified as the driver John Hudkinson 25, and Joseph Taylor, 20, both of Mesquite. Neither could be reached for comment Wednesday. Several others at the scene were treated for minor injuries, but no others involved in the wreck required transport to a hospital for further treatment.
